 | | Class 50s on the Severn Valley Railway, Sat 17 July 2010
Class 50 running day on the SVR featuring 50031 - in faded large logo livery, and 50035 in Load Haul black orange and renumbered 50135. A selection of views taken throughout the day - someone had to record the event while others refreshed themselves in the bar... Thanks to the C50A volunteers for providing both Vacs for the day.

 | | North Yorkshire Moors Railway, 9 and 10 July 2010
Photographs from a recent double visit to the NYMR - starting with half a day following hired-help 31128 on FireCon 2 steam loco pilot duties - then a trip on the Esk Valley Pullman dining train with the blue 31 again!

 | | Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, Sat 12 June 2010
A sunny summer Saturday spent enjoying the K&WVR diesel gala - with 50015, fresh from its recent bodywork overhaul the main draw for me. Other excitement included 33109, bringing back painful memories of being bowled by "bagpipes" on the Waterloo to Exeter route in the early '80s. Happy days!

 | | January to April 2010
January winter wonderland, seaside trip on an almost proper loco hauled train, Network Rail trips to Holgate Works and even a couple of class 60s feature here.
|
 | | 50008 on the East Lancashire Railway, Sat 13 March 2010
This was supposed to 50015's turn but with the locomotive's bodywork overhaul not quite complete, long stay visitor 50008 substituted. No 8 itself has recently returned to traffic following a repaint at Bury, and had a run out for the second weekend running following on from the Gala weekend one week earlier. Running was a little circumspect (for valid technical reasons apparently) on the first two runs but after lunch Thunderer was given a little more stick. Good day out as usual, well done to the ELR and the Bury diesel people for ensuring we got a Vac.

 | | September to December 2009
Views from late summer through to the end of 2009 including the North Yorkshire Moors Railway diesel gala, a few autumn rail-head treatment trains and the usual assortment of tours visiting York in the final weeks of the year.
|
 | | July and August 2009
A few steamers, a whole bunch of HSTs - even a few 60s on the Jarrow, before a glimpse of the newly Grand Central liveried class 180 on its way up to Heaton

 | | Class 50 running days 2009 featuring; 50015, 50019 and 50027
Photos from days out at heritage railways offering a few trips behind a Vac. 50015 on the East Lancs in March, 50019 on the Mid Norfolk in May and 50027 on the NYMR in August - great days!
|
 | | May and June 2009
Starts with a wet interlude in the Tebay area, then a trip to Kew Gardens via the North London Line. Couldn't resist trying my hand at aviation photography, though it was fairly full on and all that looking upwards can lead to a stiff neck! The end of the month saw better weather to illuminate the classic lines of 40145 on the ECML and 50019 on the MNL.
June begins with a few views of a Saturday afternoon at Poppleton on the Harrogate branch as a brace of 47s make a change from the usual 100% diet of units.
|
 | | January to April 2009
Photos taken in the first four months of 2009, including the Nene Valley gala in March, a few views at Charing Cross and 40145 tackling the S&C.

 | | Images from the year 2008
Mainly local views supplemented by trips to the Severn Valley and East Lancs Railways in search of Vacs. Class 40 hauled RHTT from York to Heywood certainly raised some eyebrows too.
|
 | | Class 50 the preservation years
Back in the day, talk occassionally turned to what would happen after British Rail finished with the Vacs. It was hoped one or two may be saved from the scrap yard and preserved for all to enjoy in years to come. Better men than me proved this to be a low target in the years since 1994.

 | | Class 50 1989
Class fifties in their final years of service for British Rail, mainly in the Network SouthEast sector
|
 | | Class 50 1988
Print scans - the fifties at the beginning of their decline. Still plenty of the great machines around working a variety of turns but the red, white and blue paint was unstoppable!
|
 | | Class 50 1987 |
 | | Class 50 1986
A very interesting year for Vac follwers - still plenty to go out for haulage wise and the livery changes; black roofs, red buffer beams and NSE stripes etc kept the camera men busy too! Many of the summer holiday trains seemed to upgrade to mk2 stock this year - always a good thing!
|
 | | Class 50 1985
Mostly negative scans of the class 50s at possibly the height of their powers! All fifty still in service working a variety trains including the Torbays, the "jumbo Penzances and more local services. These were great days, and don't let any "log" hater tell you otherwise!
|
 | | Class 50 1981 - 1984
Scans of prints and negatives from 1981 to 1984 when i was just a lad. The negative scans start in 1984 and gave some surprising results. 50047 at Dawlish marks the end of that summer's timetable before returning to the staple diet of Mule trips and occassional runs on the Torbay. 50009/50003 got me tantalisingly close to my first pair!

These pictures aren't mine - or my brother's for that matter! Photos bought from or given to me by others - gratis or in exchange for money or some other favour. Pre fotopic, these pictures resided in a separate random photo album - they still do, but they are also seen by a wider audience.
